There has been a lot of talk lately about Talent Management. Is this a new piece of the people management puzzle or just a fancy new name for what we have already been doing? And if the term does refer to a new area of professional practice, how does it fit in with the existing HR function? What competencies do HR professionals need in order to be able to transition into talent management functions?

This session will address the true nature of Talent Management.  You will learn:

    • What Talent Management really is
    • How Talent Management fits with the HR function
    • What are the skills, knowledge, and competencies HR professionals need to be effective practitioners of Talent Management
    • Why Talent Management is more important now than ever before in the global marketplace

About the Presenter:  Mark Allen, Ph.D. is an educator, speaker, consultant, and author who specializes in talent management and corporate universities. He is the author of Aha Moments in Talent Management

As an internationally-recognized authority, he is a popular speaker and has presented his research in numerous countries including China, France, Italy, Mexico, and Turkey, and throughout the United States and Canada.

He has consulted with or delivered executive development programs for 3M, Alpha Natural Resources, AT&T, Boeing, Caesars World, Farmers Insurance, Kaiser Permanente, the Los Angeles Police Department, Samsung, Southern California Edison, the government of Taiwan, Verizon, and many other global organizations

    • Virtual: Connection information provided upon registration

The Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential provides a way for professionals in the field to prove their value to employers. It shows that you are confident about your knowledge and ability.

The study group sessions are meant to be a supplement to your independent study. These sessions provide a chance to reinforce knowledge through discussion, clarification of key points, and completing sample test questions.

Benefits of the ATD-LA study group include:

    • Enhancing preparation for the CPLP certification
    • Following a schedule of progress through the ATD Learning System
    • Tapping into the knowledge and expertise of the group
    •  Industry recognition of your certification as an expert

    The Study Group Process:

As a cohort, we will cycle through the entire ATD Learning System, and then begin the cycle again. This allows a member to start whenever they want and eventually cover all ten Areas of Expertise.

The Certified Professional in Learning and Performance™ (CPLP™) offered by the ATD Certification Institute (CI) offers workplace learning and performance (WLP) professionals an opportunity to enhance credibility and prove value in an increasingly competitive marketplace. If you would like to learn more about the CPLP program, you can learn more at the ATD website: https://www.td.org/Certification

The primary goal of the study group is to prepare professionals to pass the CPLP exam and the required Work Product. In addition, we strive to help participants expand their knowledge of performance improvement, instructional design, training delivery, learning technologies, evaluating learning impact, managing learning programs, integrated talent management, coaching, knowledge management, and change management.

As facilitators, we commit to providing an interactive learning environment on a monthly basis to help explore and reinforce 10 competencies of the CPLP.

To participate in the study group, you will need:

An ATD Learning System, a digital curriculum (can be ordered via the ATD store). Note: you may use other resources to prepare, but the curriculum is based on the 10 modules, which were updated in 2013.

Time and commitment to read and self-study the modules before the meeting. A willingness to participate in interactive exploration of the materials.

Rates to offset costs of the study program.

    • Members and Affiliates: $130
    • Students and job transition rate: $65
    • Non members rate: $195
